Sherokee is a bereaved parent, international speaker and author of numerous books. She has presented over 700 workshops on childbearing loss to national, regional and local groups in 40 states, Canada and England since 1982. She is also a consultant/speaker to hospital and perinatal organizations across the US. She was the co-founder of the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Center, international non-profit organization and was its director and/or board member for 10 years. Additionally, she was the Coordinator for The Coalition for Positive Outcomes in Pregnancy, a Washington D.C. based national organization representing consumer groups. She received her BA in Psychology and Sociology as well as her teaching certificate from Hamline University.
Sherokee books, Empty Arms and Giving Care, Taking Care, paved the way for compassionate care for bereaved families, and addressed the needs of caregivers in order to avoid burnout. Sherokee is a board member of ISA (International Stillbirth Alliance). A bereaved mother of three, she and her husband have two living children, Kellan and Trevor.

The Colors of Love and Shades of Grief: Keeping your Marriage Strong After Loss: Maintaining, and strengthening marriage after child loss requires hard work. Learn to appreciate the different coping methods of men and women in grief. Learn to work together to discover, or rediscover, your depth of love for each other and for the child you have lost. Sherokee Ilse and Tim Nelson each had stillborn babies and worked hard to keep their respective marriages strong. They each have authored multiple books and articles on pregnancy, infant loss, and grief.

Giving Care, Taking Care: Avoiding Burnout, Recognizing Compassion Fatigue: Learn compassionate care strategies for helping grieving families, as well as ways to recognize your own compassion fatigue. Caregivers will discuss and discover self care ideas for filling their own well, increasing energy and strength in their care-giving journey. Author, Sherokee Ilse has experienced a stillbirth, miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.
