GRACE Weekend Retreat for Bereaved Families
October 24 - 26th, 2008
Saturday Lunch Keynote Speaker
Tim Nelson author of "A Guide for Father's" and "Couple Communication After a Baby Dies"
Keynote Address titled ~ "Co-piloting Through the Turbulence of Grief"
Tim will share about grief being a journey, a process, that will be woven into the bereaved parent's lives from this point forward. That does not mean they will never be happy again, but most likely this experience has changed them forever. By recognizing, understanding, and being comfortable with their "new normal" they have the opportunity to grow as individuals and as a couple. This growth can be one of the greatest gifts their child's life offers them, and it's a choice as to whether to move ahead or get stuck. By being at this retreat, they have already chosen to seek renewal and hope, and have taken a huge step forward.
Following the talk, couples will have the opportunity to talk with each other using questions that are meant to spur open communication about the grief process.
As a young father when his second child was unexpectedly stillborn, Tim wrote an article as part of his grieving process that was later published as a booklet entitled, A Father's Story. He also became active with the non-profit Pregnancy and Infant Loss Center, eventually serving as president of the board of directors. In the years following, the publishing company he co-owns created a division called, A Place To Remember, which publishes and distributes books and other products for grieving families and their caregivers. He has spoken at numerous conferences and training sessions throughout the United States. Tim and his wife, Monica have four living children and reside in Woodbury, Minnesota.
